The managementand staff of Woodlands International School are excited with progress towards the school’s official opening in April 2013. Highly qualified local and expatriate teachers from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the Philippines have been recruited to provide a supportive, innovative, and stimulating learning environment where every student is valued as a unique individual learner.All staff have been recruited by Woodlands Chief Operations Officer Dr Sue Collins who commented “These teachers are amongst the finest I have met. Under the expert leadership of the Principal Mrs Karen McClymontthe staff are currently participating in a two-week induction program.On the first daythe enthusiastic teachersparticipated in fun team building activities, sharing their diverse international teaching backgrounds and their unified vision for the school. Mrs McClymont brings a wealth of experience to the position and after three days of working with the staff stated “We have an inspiring and dedicated team who are excited to engage in the many new relationships and teaching experiences they will embark upon within the rich and diverse community of Sibu”.
Teachers are working collaboratively with senior staff on planning innovative, holistic learning programmes in preparation for setting up their classrooms with the high quality resources that have been purchased to support the curriculums.Accredited by Cambridge, Woodlands will offer the internationally recognized gold standard Cambridge International Curriculum at both primary and secondary levels, and in addition, the exciting International Primary Curriculum (IPC) in kindergarten and primary. After working with the teachers for three days, the Head of Primary Ms Christina Koh, stated “We have an enthusiastic, motivated, and trusting team with a huge range of talent. I see a brilliant beginning to the success of Woodlands International School”.
Sibu has also made a very positive first impression on the expatriate teachers who commented “Sibu has welcomed us with open arms. We are excited to be part of the first international school in Sibu and the community is very lucky to have such an innovative, dynamic, world class school. We are not just building a new school, we are building futures and hope”.
While the medium of instruction at Woodlands will be English, the students also will benefit from Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, PE, music, drama and rich co-curricula activity programmes taught by specialist teachers. The emphasis at Woodlands will be on the delivery of a well-rounded, holistic education for students at each level. Class sizes will be limited to a maximum of 25 students. In addition, kindergarten and lower primary classes will benefit from teacher assistants.
Full day kindergarten classes will be offered to children from three to five years of age. In response to requests from parents Woodlands is also pleased to announce the establishment of a half-day educational pre-kindergarten session for children born in 2010. The focus will be on the provision of a rich developmental programme to prepare the children for the Year One Kindergarten class.
The standard of Woodlands’ facilities and resources will set a new benchmark of excellence in the region. Comprising 66 classrooms the campus will be built in two phases,the fully airconditioned facilities will include anIT suite with individual computers; well stocked library; large multi-purpose hall and gymnasium; specialist teaching rooms for drama, language, music, art; fully equipped science laboratories; AV room; counseling facilities; outdoor sports facilities; two swimming pools including a purpose built pool for kindergarten children, a halal kitchen and dining hall.
Two information sessions will be held this Saturday 23 March at the Kingwood Hotel (Perdana Room 19, located on the second floor of the new wing). The first session will be held from 2pm-3pm and will be conducted by the Principal Mrs Karen McClymont and the Chief Operations Officer Dr Sue Collins. The session will include general information regarding the ethos and vision of the school, registration procedures, fees, curriculum, uniform and selected school policies.
The second session will follow from 3pm – 4.30pm and will be conducted by Mr Ng Kim Huat, the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) representative for Malaysia.All existing and prospective parents and students are invited to attend the sessions.
The school will also be hosting open days from 9am – 4pm on 8-12 April. Special orientation sessions for students and parents will be held at the school on Wednesday 10 April at the following times: Kindergarten 9am – 10am; Primary 10.30am – 11.30am; Secondary 11.30am – 12.30pm. Prospective families are also invited to attend.
Woodlands International School has been receiving a steady stream of applications from prospective students. To ensure the students’ individual learning needs will be catered for to the highest international standards, entrance assessments are scheduled to be held on Monday 25 March to Wednesday 27 March. Interested parents are advised to contact the school at their earliest convenience to register their child and arrange for the entrance assessments. All enrollments received before 15 April 2013 will be eligible for discounted application and assessment fees.

教師團隊正積極的與Woodlands國際學校的團隊共同商討，建立因應教學方針所應該備有的教室硬體設施。劍橋認證的Woodlands國際學校將為詩巫的學齡孩童提供備有國際水平的小學以及高中劍橋教學課程，值得一提的是，Woodlands國際學校也提供劍橋幼兒教學課程。與小學部教師團隊處事三天後，小學部總負責人，Ms Christina Koh 對教師團做出評語“ 我們擁有如此高效率，廣泛領域的專才，我可以預見Woodlands國際學校小學部在即將來臨的未來不可言喻。”
Woodlands國際學校幼兒教學部為年齡3 – 5歲的幼兒提供全天候教學制度。基於部分家長的訴求，學校也為出生於2010的前學齡孩童成立了半天制的幼兒課程. 前學齡孩童的課程特別針對為孩童的幼兒階段課程做裝備。
