渡輪 ferry boats

兩艘渡輪往反方向航行.two ferry boats move the other ways.
電單車,汽車,貨車,渡輪的角色重要. carrying motorcycles, cars, lorries with goods, ferry boats has played a very important role of local people's daily lives.
這種過渡情況,只待成追憶. this way of crossing a river is becoming far away memories.
這個畫面再難看到了. car passengers walking away from the ferry boats. this scene can hardly be seen again.

ferry boats has been a convenient means of transport for many Sarawakians. especially in the interior part of Sarawak, where there are lots of rivers, by crossing these rivers, different types of ferry boats has been of great importance and play a pivotal role in the people's daily lives.
this is especially true in the central region of Sarawak, the majestic Rajang river means that, whenever there's a need to cross over to the other side of the river, ferry boats has to be available.
and so, when bridges were built, ferry boats became obsolete and gradually retired from our daily lives.

James Hoover---Methodist church missionary

Hoover's grave rebuilt.
歷經72年的原有墳墓. the 72-year old grave.
墓碣寫著他的生平簡歷.simple narration of his life on the tomb stone.
富雅各遺照. a picture of James Matthews Hoover.
詩巫的富雅各紀念公園,中間狀如漏斗的設施,意指他為了教會付出了個人的一生.memory park in Sibu. the structure in the middle signified his endless love for the people here.

James Matthews Hoover has been a Methodist Episcopal church's missionary from U.S.A.
He was born on 26th August, 1872. After serving in Sarawak for 32 years, he passed away in 11th February, 1935.
His grave is at the back of St. Thomas school of the Anglican church, kuching.
the methodist church of sarawak rebuilt the grave in the midst of this year.

如仙橋小販 hawkers under the Durin bridge

巨大渡輪載車輛過江景象,在這里已看不到. no more ferry carrying vehicles across the Rajang river.
如仙大橋,外表看不到它的重性.don't judge Durin bridge's importance through its appearance.
如仙橋底小販,生意不錯. not bad business, under the bridge.
籐製品是最主要貨品. rattan made products in abundance.

Durin bridge is the last remaining gap of pan Borneo highway. with its completion, it also changed the life style of the day, when many have to wait for a ferry to take them across the river. hawker stalls became the resting point and attract customers for food and drink.
since the using of bridge, the day of the ferries were over. together were the stalls by the river bank.
however, on one side of the river, there still remain some hawkers who continue with their business. thanks to the many motorists who just drop by for a drink, or buy something. at the same time, enjoy a view of the bridge.

different species of pitcher plants.

Iban long houses

景觀不錯. these three photos were taken at around 40-50 km, Sibu oya road .

Iban long houses can mostly be seen in the more interior of Sarawak, where most Iban people lives.
the houses are "long", that is why it is called "long house".
It was built with wood and "atap" leaves long ago, but no more these days. atap is a type of plant grown in the swampy land of Sarawak.
although going modern, the long houses still kept it's status as "long".

人猴 orang utang

3母子. all in a family.
小人猴在覓食. an young orang utang looking for food.

Express boat of Sarawak

Kuching wharf for the express boats is under construction.
快艇停泊在詩巫碼頭. express boat berthing at Sibu wharf.
乘客在泗里街碼頭搬動他們的物品.travellers unloading their belongings at the Sarikei wharf.
丹章馬尼碼頭. the wharf of Tanjung Mani.

at this very moment, there are some places in Sarawak, we still require to travel by boat. water travelling can get started from Kuching, to Tanjung Mani (deep sea harbour at the mouth of Rajang river), Sarikei, Sibu, Durin, Kanowit, Song, Kapit, Belaga.
Due to lack of road connectivity, many of these places can only be reached by boat.
Although many would choose to travel by road these days, once a while travelling by boat can be very interesting.

Sibu sunday market

詩巫周末市集一景.a view of Sibu Sunday market.

the number of hawkers in sibu sunday market is much smaller than Satok sunday market in Kuching.
nevertheless, sibu sunday market is one very very different place. many of those come straight from their farms. they are the farmers themselves, bringing along their products. vegetables and fruits they actually planted, to sell at this place.
you'll know their identities through their speaking, their ways of treating customers, and their simpleness.
